Unpacking today's hottest Specialty Thrillers, one fact at a time.

What is a Specialty Thriller?

I love fiction that sweeps me into a thrilling adventure while immersing me in new experiences and knowledge—whether through a voyage across the globe, a journey back in time, a window into nature’s wonders, or a deep dive into the invisible world of artificial intelligence.

Thrillers that do this come in all forms, including medical, legal, historical, political, military, science fiction, and technothrillers. What they all have in common is that they immerse the reader into a totally different, but very realistic, world.

The best specialty thrillers blend fact with fiction so seamlessly that the reader loses track of what is, what could be, and what is utterly impossible.

Crichton’s Jurassic Park is an iconic example, but consider Steve Berry’s historical adventures, Blake Crouch’s near future technothrillers, and Robin Cook’s medical thrillers.

But here’s the rub. After the book is over, these fantastic stories stay with us. Our brains unwittingly try to incorporate our new knowledge into our everyday life, finding its way into conversations, even our general lexicon. But what is real and what is not?

A very few authors take the extra step to let the reader know. (Try one of Steve Berry’s audio books with the author commentary, they are fabulous). Most do not.

Enter…From Fact To Fiction

At From Fact to Fiction, I invite you to join me as we review the latest specialty thrillers, and unravel fact from fiction. We’ll also dive into awe-inspiring scientific discoveries and see how authors are using them to craft thrilling tales.

Each month, I’ll pair up with an expert and we’ll review one of these hot new thrillers. We’ll talk about why we loved the book, uncover the facts that inspired the story, and separate fiction from reality.

Come Over Now and see what it's all about.

Please let me know what you think, I need your feedback. Have a book or topic you want to hear about? Found an interesting story in the news or on another Substack? Forward it my way! Interested in being a guest expert? Leave a comment and I’ll get back to you ASAP.
